Nebraska Science Olympiad Competition for Middle School
Aquinas Middle School competes in the Nebraska Science Olympiad, established by the Nebraska Department of Education student organization. This annual competition allows teams compete in various science events.
Science Research Class
The Science Research Class competes in two annual competitions: the Greater Nebraska Science & Engineering Fair (GNSEF) and Nebraska Junior Academy of Science (NJAS) Competition.
GNSEF divides projects into 14 categories. Categories include Behavioral and Social Sciences, Biochemistry, Botany, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth and Space Sciences, Engineering, Environmental Science, Mathematics, Medicine and Health, Microbiology, Physics and Zoology. Team projects are also accepted.
- Nebraska Junior Academy of Science (NJAS) Fair
An affiliate of the Nebraska Academy of Sciences, the Nebraska Junior Academy of Sciences (NJAS) seeks to stimulate science education and to encourage young people to become involved in science. Aquinas belongs in the Southeast Region.
UNL Math Day
UNL Department of Mathematics on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln City Campus sponsors the annual UNL Math Day. Math Day consists of one individual and two team mathematics competitions. The top 10 Math Day students are awarded a total of $34,000 in four-year scholarships to UNL.
Wayne State College Math Contest
Two students from Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus compete at the Wayne State College Math Contest. There is also a bowl team contest against three other teams.
The Aquinas Quiz Bowl Team participates in the Big Red Country Quiz Bowl. Quiz Bowl is an academic, competitive, interscholastic activity. Quiz bowl questions range over the entire spectrum of a high school curriculum and also include a certain amount of current events, sports, and popular culture. The match feature a blend of individual competition and team collaboration. Quiz Bowl can reinforce classroom lessons and also encourage players to go beyond their assignments to master other academic areas as well.
